[ back to top ] Intra-luminal measuring devices Until recently, most clinicians have relied upon fluoroscopic visual determination of lesion length to aid in selecting the appropriate angioplasty balloon or stent. A recent publication compared visual estimation with the determination of length made using a guidewire with radiopaque markers at 10mm increments. In over 25% of the cases, the guide wire measurement altered the stent length chosen (» view abstract). Similarly, a study by Wolyn et.al. has shown poor correlation of visual estimation of length when compared to measurement using IVUS. In this same study, the AccuGage™ Vessel Caliper from Accumed was found to have excellent correlation with the IVUS measurement of lesion length (» view abstract). The AccugageTM may be used with any guidewire or balloon preferred by the clinician. [ back to top ] |
